Cumann Na mBan – Women Of The Revolution
In 1966 the newspapers reported on how the “Nation Honours the Men of 1916”. The contribution of Cumann Na mBan was airbrushed from History firstly by the fledgling Free State and later by de Valera’s version of Ireland. Margaret Skinnider shot 3 times during the rising was refused a pension for years because the state ruled that the definition of a soldier was masculine. Women of the Revolution led by Sinn Féin Deputy President Mary Lou McDonald TD will remember all the brave women of 1916 on Mothers Day Sunday 6th March 2016.
